As consumer electronics continue to evolve, Silicon (Si), Silicon Carbide (SiC), and Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices can bring unique strengths that collectively drive product innovation. Gallium Nitride (GaN), the flagship of wide bandgap semiconductors, is now reshaping the consumer electronics. GaN HEMTs enable ultra-high switching frequencies, allowing power converters to use smaller magnetic components and achieve much higher efficiency. This has led to a new generation of compact fast chargers, ranging from 30W to 500W, that deliver lightning charging speed for smartphones and laptops. GaN’s high frequency and low loss characteristics also power high-end Class-D audio amplifiers, reducing distortion and enhancing sound quality, while gradually expanding into appliances, robotics, and smart home systems.
Silicon Carbide (SiC), with its superior high temperature and high voltage capabilities, is emerging in high power consumer applications, providing robust and reliable power support for premium devices.
